Brixton Design Trail
From March to May 2017 Sixteenfeet Productions delivered a series of creative writing workshops as part of the ‘Lambeth Vintage Voices’ project. The sessions were fun, challenging and explored participants’ expe- riences of living, working and bringing up families in Brixton over decades.
‘Lovers’ Telephone’ presents some of the writings which have been recorded and are presented in Brixton Community Base as part of the 2017 Brixton Design Trail event. Visitors are encouraged to engage by listen- ing and sharing personal histories of Brixton.
This event has been designed by Brixton Community Base and Variant Of ce:
Brixton Community Base is an arts-orientated community centre providing a base for local groups, which hires space for rehearsals, workshops, evening classes, and meetings. It is an important historical community resource that provides a friendly open collaborative space that brings people together to share learning and experience new activities and make friends.
Variant Of ce is a Brixton based architecture practice that brings together many years of experience in ar- chitecture, design, planning and construction. The ethos of Variant Of ce is rooted in design research, us- er-centricity and a commitment to exploring the ability of space to transform lives and experiences through the careful engagement with both the client’s requirements and sensitivity to the site.
We will be running another series of creative writing and oral history workshops during Winter 2017/Spring 2018. If you would like to share your experiences of living in Brixton, learn new writing skills and make friends please contact Jane at brixtoncommunitybase@gmail.com for more information.
